I would like to congratulate the winners of the student best presentation;


First place: Hazel Smith

Second place: Josh Walton


All the talks were excellent however these two were deserving of the awards for top presentation.

I would also like to thanks our plenary speakers who gave highly informative and entertaining talk. Lastly I would like to thank everyone who attended the conference and hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

We are holding our SIAM-IMA Student Chapter conference this week, Tuesday 30th April 10am-4pm as part of the Engage with Strathclyde week.

We will be a wide selection of student talks throughout the day and some guest planary speakers, such as,

Lyles Kahoudji on "The transition to aeration into two-phase mixing",

Christian Cole on "Putting teh science back into forensic science",

and finally,

Des Highman is returning as guest speaker to talk about "Numerical precision in deep learning".

This year's Strathclyde SIAM-IMA Student Chapter Conference will take place on the 30th of April from 10am-4pm in the Scottish Universities Insight Institute as part of the Engage with Strathclyde week. The conference will focus on the application of mathematics to industrially relevant problems and will include three plenary speakers;


Dr Lyes Kahouadji (Imperial College London) - Direct numerical simulations in fluid mechanics.

Dr Christian Cole (University of Dundee) - Applications of mathematics for forensic science.

Prof Des Higham (University of Strathclyde) - Numerical precision in deep learning.
